The Nature of Subtle Energy

The phrase ”subtle energy” refers to the force field surrounding all living things.  In the human body it comprises the aura and seven layers of energy, which are referred to as the “subtle bodies”.  These control our physical well-being, emotional stability, and mental clarity.  They are a direct reflection of our spiritual state and mirror how we feel about ourselves and life in general.

It is important to understand that even though this energy is not visible it can be experienced.  It is apparent in people and can be felt by the light, open quality they have or by their negative demeanor.  Even though we cannot see their energy, we perceive the quality of their energy field through their body language, the brightness or dullness of their eyes,  the clarity or confusion of their minds, and, by the things they say and do.  Subtle energy pervades every interaction we have with people,  plants, and animals.  It is the life force exchanged between us (Ambika Wauters, 2002, The Book of Chakras, p. 10).

Early Morning Spider Web by DASG

I was surprised yesterday at school by one of my teachers response (non response) to my curiousity about exploring a client’s emotional state before doing massage therapy.  We were talking about those infamous intake forms that we are asked to fill out by our doctors and therapists before being treated.  Even though most of the forms we looked at had a category of depression and/or stress somehow I felt this disconnect in her awareness of the connection between mind and body.  My Masters and Angels are in overdrive this morning pouring the truth of the matter into my mind to continue this path of connecting all that I have learned and want to bring to my clients; a combination of Art therapy, Reiki, Past Life Regression Therapy, and now Massage Therapy.  I witnessed this first hand at my training with Brian Weiss.  He has over 20 years of experience healing patients by connecting those physical and emotional traumas to past life experiences.  Emotional and physical traumas are energetic.  They are stored in our bodies and after death stored in our souls, which opens up the whole realm of  doing “therapy”.  Such an interesting truth.

Every muscular rigidity contains the history and meaning of its origin. (Wilhelm Reich 1993, in an article by Dave Heath).  This is what excites me about massage therapy.

In my Anatomy class yesterday a teacher listed “releases stored memories” as one of the benefits of massage therapy.  Wow!  This concept ties into what I experienced during the Past Life Regression Therapy training with Brian Weiss at the Omega Institute this past July.  An acute or chronic injury, whether physical or emotional, often has a history that can be linked to a childhood experience or perhaps an injury in a past life.  These “injuries” are stored in our bodies (and even our souls) and can be accessed and resolved both by past life regression therapy and massage therapy.  Sooooooooo very cool!

Pondering by DASG

Throughout our lifetime we are faced with challenges.  Sometimes these challenges seem to be insurmountable, with severe, life changing consequences.  Sometimes the stress of a challenge can linger for years, take the life of a loved one, or even lead to your own death.  The next time you are faced with such a challenge consider this . . . perhaps you have chosen this challenge for the betterment of your soul.  Perhaps you made a sacred contract with yourself and God*  for specific reasons that will enrich your soul with empathy, compassion, and love.  Ask yourself,  What is the lesson?  What can I learn by this experience?  If you choose not to look for the lesson or continue to wallow in the pain of the experience your soul is destined to relive similar experiences over and over again, not only in this lifetime, but in the next.  Even the most horrific of experiences can be one of growth if you consider the lesson you have chosen to learn.

Perhaps you can give it a try . . .  ask yourself . . .  What is the lesson?  And know that the lesson is yours and yours alone.

*The concept of  God may be different for each one of us.  The term suggests a higher power or energy that our souls are connected with.

Soul Window…

A. June Cyr

I just found out today that one of my most favorite elderly clients has passed away.  We had a quilt to finish.  But, isn’t that the way it usually goes?  Death can be unexpected, even with the aged.  June drew this beautiful chapel in an art therapy group depicting her sacred space.  The drawing gives the art therapist an intimate look at the client’s immediate experience.  The circular window, this one beautifully crafted in colorful stained glass, is often called a soul  window.  It provides an outlet for the soul at the moment of our physical body’s death.  And so she has escaped the confines of her earthly existence.  I will miss her.

…is one of my favorites.

The Magical Child sees the potential for sacred beauty in all things, and embodies qualities of wisdom and courage in the face of difficult circumstances, epitomized by the historical figure of Anne Frank and the literary figure of Tiny Tim in Dickens’ A Christmas Carol.  This archetype is gifted with the power of imagination and the belief that everything is possible (Caroline Myss, Archetype Cards, 2003Illustrations by Janice Fried).

Rocks at Omega

If I had to sum up my first week at  The Finger Lakes School of Massage I would use the word authentic.  I have always craved authentic in my life; things that are genuine, real, bona fide.  To experience that daily with people, with teachers, with learning…   it feels…  good.
